Protect the environment in wars
Posted on November 6th, 2009 No commentsThe General Assembly announced the annual November 6 to be the International Day of preventing the Environment in War and Armed Conflict on November 6, 2001. When the General Assembly took this action, they thought that the environment in armed conflict damage to long beyond the period of conflict impairs ecosystems and natural resources, and often extend beyond national boundaries, and misfortune for future generations, emphasized the need to protect our common environment. The General Assembly also recalled the “United Nations Millennium Declaration” and stressed the need to protect the welfare of future generations of nature and efforts to protect our common environment.
To the human tragedy of war brought the economy brought about by heavy losses, while significant trauma to the environment. Sometimes, as a tactic, natural resources have been deliberately destroyed. But more often, the environment in the crossfire become innocent victims. Among these, the worst victims are often poor, they have a great extent, the environment for a living, not only from the environment to food, but also access to drugs from the environment, and even make a living, housing built room, settling down, no not from the environment to obtain the necessary resources.
We help those people caught in conflict to regain the land, and their livelihoods, more importantly, enable them to once again become the guardian of their environment, thus, we have made these people have mastered the tools to lay the foundation for a lasting peace , which ultimately is the best defense. On the occasion of celebrating the International Day, I would like to appeal to all parties concerned to redouble their efforts to prevent damage during the war devastated the environment.
